Run time: 1.5 hours

Capacity: 12 participants

This month's book selection: One State: The only democratic future for Palestine-Israel by Ghada Karmi

*We recommend that participants have finished at least 80% of the book by the meetup date in order to affectively engage in discussions. There is no rule on how you read the book (physical, e-book or audiobook are all acceptable forms of reading)

Where to get it:

One State is available for purchase online.

Unfortunately, it is unavailable at the Tasmanian state library, at local bookstores (to our knowledge), and as an audiobook.

It's a great time to ask your local library to add it to their collection.

About One State by Ghada Karmi

A radical case for a one-state solution from the renowned Palestinian writer and Nakba survivor.

In this book, Karmi powerfully argues that a democratic one-state settlement is the best possible route to a just future for all concerned, including Palestinian refugees. Uniting the land – from the Mediterranean Sea to the River Jordan – and allowing the Palestinian right of return is the only way to end the exclusive and antidemocratic character of the israeli state.

About Ghada Karmi

Ghada Karmi was born in Jerusalem. Forced from her home during the Nakba, she later trained as a Doctor of Medicine at Bristol University. She established the first British-Palestinian medical charity in 1972 and was an Associate Fellow at the Royal Institute for International Affairs.

Her previous books include the best-selling memoir In Search of Fatima.
